Wow, the level of uncomprehension is staggering. Here's the reason why manual updates are important: USER CHOICE AND CONTROL! Not everyone may want to update their apps. I'm sure that if Apple gave users no choice and updated everyone's apps whether they wanted them or not, there would be a HUGE cry of protest that Apple was playing Big Brother and forcing users to upgrade.I agree with Mr McCain. Why do I have to update manually. Also I can obviously see where you political agenda lies. Maybe you should think about that next time before you end up alienating some of your readers.
Manual app updates are a snap:
1. Make sure you have the App Store icon on the home screen for fast updates.
2. Tap on the App Store icon whenever you see a number superimposed on the icon (means that number of apps have updates).
3. When the App Store app opens, tap on the bottom right button labelled "Updates".
4. Tap on "Update All".
Anyone who has a hard time with this should trade in their iPhone for an oldstyle pre-smartphone and forget keeping up with the learning curve.

People Hate Windows 8 So Much They’ll Pay $125 To Downgrade To Windows 7 [Image] | Cult of Mac
I purchased win8 via their $39 promo, after installing all the apps that i use regularly (visual studio, rational, office and a multitude of others), the modern ui quickly looked cluttered and disorganized (i know you can create groups in modern ui, but it just didnt look right; the apps i use obviously didnt have a 48x48 icon so modern ui was stretching the 32x32 icon to fit the space. it sucked.)
I'm not really a fan of flat surfaces, but during the time i spent on win8, i sorely missed the eyecandy of windows aero and glass.
Also, and probably the biggest peeve for me was that huge disconnect between the modern ui and the desktop. I found it difficult to shift between paradigms and i was intentionally avoiding the start page (pane or whatever it was called).
In the end, after trying really hard and giving it a couple of weeks, i decided to upgrade back to win7 and never install win8 ever. Win8, imho, looks flawed and maybe its the same reason why sinofsky got the boot from msft.
Btw, i'm a software architect and spend most of my time working in windows. For me, win8 was a terrible experience.

matrix3D, it's not so much about the workers doing the actual assembly, but much more about their supervisors and the people, who make sure that all the machines work as they should. As those people tend to work on several projects before they manage a high-volume customer like Apple they also gain outstanding know-how in a company like foxconn.
