Sparrow for iPhone — the third-party email client that has left Apple’s built-in Mail app redundant on my device — has received another major update today, which introduces a number of helpful features and quashes a handful of bugs.

Doomed!  So we pay for the app and then extra for push.  Other apps will blow it out of the water.  Sad times

Terrible choice! Ive bought sparrow for iPhone because I loved it so much on the Mac. To hear the news that push will be extra is very disappointing. Sad to say but you're going to burn a lot of customers and lose alot of support from fans like me.

If it is true that you have to pay a yearly subscription for push, I then regret downloading it in the first place and paying to support the team cause simply put I don't use it because that very reason. But just like every one else I decided to fork out the money to support the team in the hopes that it will be complete one day.

    That's pretty messed up!

This is total BS. I bought Sparrow for my Mac and love it! I have yet to buy it for the iPhone (was waiting for push to be supported) then I would be willing to pay the $3 for it. But now that they are going to rape you for not only the $3 but for a subscription service, I say screw that. Really bad PR move on thier part that is really going to cost them.

According to Engadget, it's because they have to send the push notifications from their own servers, so to make up that cost they are charging. Now as to whether or not that is true, I have no idea

I don't use Sparrow, mostly because it hasn't made a good use case for me or users like me yet.  For instance I have no troubles with Mail either for the Mac or for the iPhone which both have more features and yet rare simple and easy to use clients in their own right.  To replace them with Sparrow, I would need some overwhelming reason and so far they offer only a smaller feature set and no real improvement other than aesthetics which is a mixed bag at best.

What astounds me is that Sparrow *still* has no client for iPad.  Email on iPad is just awful, and without doubt, the worst of the three Apple mail clients is the iPad version.  If there was a Sparrow client for the iPad that fixed the obvious shortcomings of the built-in app, I might actually download and use it.
