Are You Having Problems With OS X Mountain Lion? [Let's Talk]

With every new major release of OS X, there are, unfortunately, a lot of people who end up having problems. The big news this morning is that many new Mac owners who are eligible for a free Mountain Lion update can't redeem their codes for the update, but these poor sods aren't likely to be the only ones with problems, as millions of Macs across the world do their darnedest to trip up the attack of Apple's latest cat.

Tech support issues can be annoying, and it can help to bellyache and gripe with other people. So if you're having issues with installing or even downloading Mountain Lion, why not jump into our open thread and tell us what's going on. Maybe we or one of our many great Cult of Mac forums users can help! At the very least, we can commisserate, and that's always nice too.

waiting for my redemption code takes forever how long does it usually take?

My installation halts with an error message, telling me after 4 minutes of installation that it was unable to make a recovery partition, and then failing. The only solution, according to Apple, is to back up all my data, delete my harddrive, boot up from the backup, and then reinstall Mountain Lion from USB.

It was easier to install a Hackintosh.

I am still waiting on my code as well, I called Apple and they acted like I should have had it by now. But then they told me to just keep waiting and checking my email for it.

Everything went smoothly until I put my redemption code into the App store and it tells me that the code had been already used. NOT pleased with this process at all!

I can't even download Mountain Lion. I get a dialog box that says the Purchase can't be completed. The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed.

I have no idea what to do about that!

Just downloaded it and ran the install. After a speedy 3 min install it rebooted. I am now faced with a black screen with a cursor.... No message, nothing! I guess I should wait...?

Like many others, I'm having issues with the redemption code saying that it has already been redeemed. I sent an email to the uptodate support team in the UK, and have been told that I should get back in touch if I haven't received a replacement code within 48 hours!

An update on my previous post.... Screen now gone from the black linen to solid black... Lost video output. Mac mini still on and some signs of disk activity. The machine is just over 1 yr old.

It all installed fine but for some reason Power Nap is not visible/available in the Energy Saver options of my 2011 13" MacBook Air.

can't even start the download, as App Store says "can't verify the distribution file". Rest of Store works fine. You can safely assume I am unimpressed. I shall wait to see if Apple fix this. if they don't I can manage without !

Update: finally booted and seems to be good now.

Loading was no problem. BUT FIlemaker Pro 11 DOES NOT RUN ON the Mountain. And that is a real problem.
Even worse, blue tooth does not activate, even though the wireless keyboard, the mighty mouse, and the mouse pad all seem to work. But no gestures, no complex responses, and the machine claims that it is forbidden from allowing Bluetooth to operate.

Went from Lion to MLion. Had three desktops. There were a small number of files on the desktop and there were a few I had deleted from the desktop last night. Paid for my upgrade through Mac App Store this morning and the upgrade process was flawless. The only issue I see is that on desktop 1, now I seem to have a "static image capture" (best i can figure) that is stuck "underneath" the new MLion desktop. If I keep the menu bar translucent, I see a second static menu bar underneath it. The files I had on the desktop are here, but now there is also a second set of static icons (image captures) that are shown, but I cannot move or manipulate them in any way likes is just a desktop image. I also see the same thing for the files I deleted last night. So it seems like there is a desktop image capture of the state of my desktop from last night stuck "underneath" my new MLion desktop. Strange. This is only happening on desktop 1. The other desktops are fine.

Doh! - It is just an image capture of my desktop! All I did was go to the desktop setting for desktop 1 and change the desktop background image. It's very strange that it would have an old screencapture of the state of my desktop and then use it as the desktop background image. Good luck to the rest of you. Patience is a virtue. :)
