What New Hardware Features Do You Want To See In The iPhone 5? [Let's Talk]

BusterBuster Posts: 315Member, Administrator, Moderator admin
A couple of rumors hit the web today claiming the iPhone 5 will supposedly be revealed in just 6 weeks. We've seen a lot of iPhone 5 parts leak out from manufacturers over the past couple weeks as well, so it sounds like the rumored September 21st release date might be true.

So if the iPhone 5 really is going to be announced on September 12, what new hardware features do you want it to come with? 2GB of RAM? 128GB storage? NFC? New dock connector? 3D Display? Also, what's Apple going to name this bad boy? "The new iPhone?" Or something else entirely? We want to hear what you want out of the next iPhone you buy, so come over to the forums and let us hear about it.

    1. Significantly bigger 4.25" screen, but not a longer 16:9...Would look ridiculous.
    2. Sleek, lighter & thinner new design...Not a modified iPhone 4.
    3. Better/louder speaker.

Obviously better battery life, improved camera, etc. I don't care about tech specs so much. Just make the user experience smooth & responsive.

If Apple release a phone that looks like the recent photos on the web, I will definitely be looking at Androids this fall. My son's new Galaxy Nexus w/ Android 4.1 makes my "4" look like a feature phone!

  • Would like it to have inductive charging
Improved cameras ( up the megapixels on the rear to maybe a 10 to keep a head of the s3 and improve FaceTime camera)
    Thinner
    NFC
    Better speakers
    Much improved battery life
4g (for those that have 4g)

The only thing i REALLY want out of the new iPhone is for it be able to replace my wallet in the near future. Wether that's via NFC or some other fancy pants hardware, I don't care. I just want to grab my phone and be set for the day.

  • Hope they increase security as if my whole wallet was in my phone I would be worried about loosing it constantly and there are too many ways to get find my iPhone to stop working! Hopefully their purchase of authentec will iron some of those issues!

    * NFC with PowerMat to replace cords
    * 4" 16:9 3D Display with iTunes movies available
    * BUMP technology to support headsets requiring this
    * A more advanced Siri to compete Google's better Siri service
    * More intense camera features

Biggest thing I'm looking for is NFC. Some of that 1ms touchscreen tech that Microsoft have been working on would be nice as well.

As for design, I'm coming around to the idea of a taller screen, although I still don't think it's necessary. I'd like less places for pocket dirt to collect. The supposed redesign in the leaked parts looks like it would address this.

I'd love a capacitive home button but I think that's flogging a dead horse.

Being an iPhonagrapher, a significant boost in RAM would be great, as well as a slot for an external memory card.

A friend of mine has been using the iOS 6 Beta, and he says that SIRI is now supporting Location service outside of the U.S., at least for Canada, with iOS 6.

The one thing I would really love Apple to put in the next iPhone is a radio tuner.
I love that my iPod nano has it and I use it whenever I can, but I take my iPhone everywhere I go and it would be more convinient if it was available.

Also, I hope T-Mobile will be able be compatable on the next iPhone. Im on an unlocked iPhone with T-Mobile and it's great, I just wish it was more officially supported.

    INDUCTIVE CHARGING!

We already have WiFi sync. Why do I have to pop open the port on my Otterbox case every night to charge the thing? I want to lay it on the counter and come back in the morning and find it charged.

External memory card is never going to happen on an iPhone or iPad

I think this would be a nice feature. Haven't seen word on it lately, but its something I've always been interested in. Maybe preluded to the feature to use the LED on the back for notification?

    Anyone else agree?

    Taller and wider screen. :)

    These are essential:

    Greatly increased battery life.
    Significantly thinner.
At least an 6-inch screen, with Retina resolution.
Solar panels on the back for extra juice during the day.
    Insertable stylus with pressure sensitivity.
Grooves for attaching the phone to mountain bike helmets, etc.
A night vision camera on both front and back for communication in dark places.
Removable hifi speakers so you don't need to bring your boombox.
Swiss army knife hidden inside the phone for comfort during camping.
Tic-tac dispenser using the home button.
Optional typewriter keyboard for nostalgic reasons.

If Apple doesn't fulfill these demands, I will surely not buy the new iPhone. Apple is a failing company.

I want the next iPhone to have:
Bigger screen (at least 3.7", hopefully 4") with at least twice the pixels it has now
    Quad-core 2 GHz processor
At least a 10-megapixel rear camera (still with 1080p HD video) with Xenon and LED flash
    At least a 720p HD and 5MP front-facing camera
    True 4G connectivity
    Inductive wireless charging
    Thinner
    Lighter
    Better battery life
    NFC
    Smaller Dock Connector
    Louder, clearer speaker

I want a 4" to 4.3" screen, first and foremost.
An eWallet, NFC, or whatever... would be nice.
Thinner and lighter, like an iPod Touch maybe?
Move the minimum storage from 16 GB up to 32 GB, and maintain the same pricing structures.

A7? They haven't even produced an A6 yet
iPhone 4S already uses bluetooth 4.0
Solar panel? For what I might ask
Walkie Talkie? You can't be serious
