Would You Be Angry If Apple Introduced A Smaller Dock Connector This Fall? [Let's Talk]

It looks like the writing is on the wall my friends. Apple is going to announce a sleek and beautiful new iPhone in September, only instead of using the traditional 30-pin connector, it's going to use something a lot smaller. Like, "maybe only 9-pins" smaller. Apple might sell an adaptor so your old iPod speaker docks can play nice with the new connector, but will that be enough to satisfy you?

Does the news make you sad? Angry? Confused? Or maybe you're like, "Smaller dock connector? Hells yeah! Now all my iDevices are going to be slimmer and cooler." I dunno. You tell me. We want to hear how you feel about the smaller dock connector and whether or not you're worried it will ruin all of your Apple accessories.

Company's like Nokia and Samsung have changed their connectors multiple times in the past 10 years, seen as this is Apples first time changing their connector, I think I can let them off.

This could be good and might mean that Apple could improve some of the features inside the phone. I certainly wouldn't complain about it if it means they can make use of the space saved reclaimed by the old connector.

It's been 5 years of the same large dock connector, if I can still use an adapter of some kind for my two iPhone speaker docks it won't bother me at all. It will make third party manufacturers have to rethink their products as well which is probably a good thing since there is a lot of crappy ones out there!

Make no difference at all to me. I still have a full set of cables here, and as time moves on, I'm sure they will soon go into a drawer and be looked at fondly years later, thinking, my how LARGE they connectors used to be!

I'm okay with it. As long as they release an adapter, its all cool beans. A smaller dock connector allows the headphone port to be at the bottom instead of the top, which I think will be beneficiary to many. I do think it will raise a few eyebrows and complaints with a lot of Apple product manufacturers, but they'll just have to learn to live with it. I think Apple is looking at this smaller dock port with thoughts like "Change is good" and "Out with the old, in with the new", and I'm totally fine with that.

Nope. I think Apple has it reasons to change it, for better mic / speaker, or perhaps other ideas for iPhone docking.

Nope, technology changes over time. Subtle improvements lead to great advancements. Without the guts to change wed all still be on rotary telephones stuck on out kitchen walls.

I just hope the smaller connector will be similar to the magsafe in that you can plug it in without worrying about which side is up. My kids always come close to breaking their iPod by trying to force the connector in upside-down.

Would welcome a smaller connector (even with the 14 devices my family currently has which use the 30-pin connector).

I am glad they are ditching the obsolete 30 pin connector, I absolutely hate the 30 pin. I hope that Apple shoots for the skys and makes the new connector Magsafe-like, and thunderbolt (and or USB3.0) compatible.

The smaller dock connector allows the phone to be slimmer, takes up less internal space and allows more room for louder/clearer speakers and a better microphone. HOPEFULLY it means they will also allow faster USB3/Thunderbolt data transfers, too.

Nope, I hope the new connector has some kind of MagSafe tech which can be put in either way though... My most important point of improvement is definitely for them to up the quality of the cables... mine ALWAYS fudge up at the ends which make me have to put duct tape all around them to keep them together... I love apple, but their chargers and cable accessories suck!!

I was under the assumption that the new dock connector would be to meet the EU requirement of a micro-usb. I am for the change if it makes the device thinner, speeds up connection and transfer. I do however believe that all device packaging should include a 32-pin adapter.

It's not that I'd be mad but just mildly annoyed. The same kind of mildly annoyed as when I discovered my white iPhone 4 didn't fit the other iPhone 4 cases. But technology moves forward, no use in being grouchy about hardware improvements.

As a user of almost every cell phone ever manufactured, I feel Apple's move to a smaller dock connector would be a mistake. Anyone who has experience with small connectors knows that they never last very long. They break off into the phone or are just fragile due to poor design. Apple's 30 pin connector is rugged. Changing to a smaller dock connector will only generate problems and higher repair and replacement cost. I hope it is just a rumor.
