Do You Plan To Switch Carriers When You Buy The New iPhone? [Let's Talk]

BusterBuster Posts: 315Member, Administrator, Moderator admin
My contract with AT&T is finally up, which might be the most glorious moment of my smartphone owning days. I've been jealous of my friend's using their iPhones on Verizon for over a year, and now I can join them and maybe get some better service. Or go to Sprint. Hell, I might even go to Virgin Mobile and save some fat stacks of cheddar on their pre-paid plans.

I don't know exactly what I'll do, but I'm free, and that's the important part. But what about you guys? Do you plan to switch carriers when the new iPhone comes out? Is the grass really greener in other cellular pastures? Or is it pretty much all the same? I'd love to hear your thoughts or stories about switching carriers in the comments.

I switched from Sprint to AT&T and could not be more happier. I have no issues with AT&T, Sprint says they are cheaper but they are not, lot of my family is still with Sprint and they hate it, so I will be staying with AT&T. The grass always seems greener on the other side but its not, Verizon is to much $ for same service so why pay more.

Personally, there is little to no chance of me upgrading to this iPhone from my 4S. Seems like the smallest update yet. Very disappointing. However, I'll probably get the NEXT next generation just for the sake of being current, in which case I will 100% be switching to a pre-paid service. AT&T can blow me.

I've had no problems at all with AT&T here in Phoenix, AZ. Can't say the same for T-Mobile or Verizon (a few years back, anyway).

I will be sticking with AT&T. I have been with Cingular/AT&T for over 10 years. In spite of their public reputation, I have had a great experience with the company and their service. Are they perfect? By no means, but no company is.

While AT&T coverage has been alright in upstate NY, my contract is up in October and I think I'm going to switch back to Verizon. I can't wait to upgrade my iPhone 4 and finally get to use Siri. Plus with the new plans both companies are offering Verizon will be a few dollars cheaper for me.

Australia here... I am with Telstra and I plan on staying with them basically because they are the only network with 4G LTE and the coverage is very nice not like the others which are just crap. I also have a WiFi 4G modem for work etc when on the road and the speeds are massively fast. Staying with Telstra for the foreseeable future.

I am definitely not staying with AT&T. Most likely going to jump on the Verizon bandwagon. I have had nothing but troubles here in Wisconsin on AT&T ever since I got the original iPhone. (I have the iPhone 4 now).

Glad to have a choice of carriers again.

I won't switch because I want to continue to be able to use data and voice simultaneously. AT&T ain't perfect but it's good enough.

As long as I can maintain my unlimited data on AT&T I'll stick with them, even with limited texting. Had most major carriers in the past, including Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile, and have had the least trouble with them overall. Should they require a data plan fee, this will be the deal breaker, but since I use the data features so much more than the phone features, any plan that includes unlimited data will be my first choice, so there is that bias to contend with.

I'm sticking with AT&T and the unlimited data....unless they quit offering that.

My nephew has Sprint and they throttle him all the time soon as he gets to 2Gigs so Sprint say they are unlimited but they are not cause of the throttling, I have 4 iPhones and none of us get close to 2gigs, I drove cross country and had no issues, here in Phoenix I have no issues. On the other hand my sisters family has Sprint and they always loosing service. And the best part of AT&T is you can talk on phone and surf and send txt, you cant do that with Spring and Verizon.

I have AT&T and have an Iphone 4. Downtown Chicago I get poor to little reception even though I have full bars and 3G services. When I go up North to Waukegan my service gets better going out West towards Schaumburg my service is just as bad as Chicago. A lot of times I have to use my wifes phone to place calls because of certain dead spots that Cingular had before they merged with AT&T. The only reason I stayed with AT&T was the fact that I get unlimited data but now they are starting to clock me down since I reached 3GB's last month. If the new Iphone has great reviews and more catered to the service provider, I might switch over.

Smallest update yet? Are you kidding me? It's the biggest change since the iPhone 4 came out.

My biggest thing is that I'm grandfathered into the Unlimited Data Plan with AT&T so it'd be tough to give that up when I use Rdio pretty much non-stop in my car and use much more than 3GB of data a month.

Really thinking about Virgin Mobile because they have unlimited. We'll have to see if they get the iPhone 5 at launch though.

I am currently with AT&T (unlimited data) and will stay as long as they keep me "grandfathered in". Unless they pull a stunt like charging extra for facetime calls over the data I already pay for! That will piss me off!
  • millmanmillman Posts: 1Member
For me it depends. If the rumors turn out true that AT&T and Verizon are going to charge extra to use FaceTime over the cell network I'm switching to Sprint. If they are, in fact, false then I will stay with AT&T. Without any more plan costs and keeping with the Harley Owners Group discount I get on AT&T it is currently the cheapest option. And unless I'm in the middle of my local Target or the elevators in my office building I have no complaints with regard to reception.

I don't know what to do. I currently have AT&T and I am grandfathered into the unlimited data. But, I don't get any reception in my work office at my campus. Don't want to lose the data, but would like better reception in my area.........I need to figure this out soon.

I work in IT and help manage the phones for my office I am excited to get new iPhone but want to warn all you thinking about switching. First of all no one has unlimited ATT Verizon both throttle after about3-4GB of data each month depending on how much you use and Sprint is so bad in most places that your unlimited might as well be you on a 56k modem especially anything that is supposed to be on their LTE network. Also for those of you hoping that ATT will grandfather you in well bad news I have been told if you next phone is 4G or 4G LTE you will have to get another data plan. I found this out when I switched to an android phone for a couple months earlier this year. So just a heads up for all you hoping to have unlimited data those days are over unless your okay using shitty Sprint unlimited and I only say this as I have watched a friend go thru several phones in last year on the sprint network.

I haven't had any major problems with Cingular/AT&T in the last 10 years I've been with them. My only hesitation is that here in Louisville, KY Verizon has had LTE for months and AT&T still isn't on board. It may be the reason I switch though.

Well, my contract never ends since I keep upgrading my phone. If I had the chance to switch, I might go to sprint if their LTE network reached LA, Ca. But from what I've seen, Sprint isn't going to get to LA for a while, so they're out. Verizon isn't an option, either since I've never been able to join them without paying a $400 security deposit.
