iPad Mini? iPad Air? What Should Apple Call The Newer Smaller iPad? [Let's Talk]
Dude, what is Apple going to call this newer, thinner, smaller iPad they're about to launch? iPad Junior? iBook? iPad Mini? iPad Air? iPad 3? I have no idea anymore. Last night I went to bed completely confident that Apple was going to probably call it something simple like "iPad Mini," but then I woke up to some new renders of the smaller iPad and talk about how Apple might call it the iPad Air.
Now I'm second guessing the whole iPad Mini thing, and leaning towards iPad Air. I really want Apple to call it an iBook, just because I want to read iBooks on my iBook, but that's probably not going to happen. Are there some better possible names for a smaller iPad? What do you think Apple should call the "iPad Mini." I need to know!

In both cases, there were a lot of people confused, up in arms and irritated that it wasn't exactly what they thought (or "knew") it would be, due in large part to the fact that people on websites "theorized" and decided for themselves what those products should be called.
So give it a rest and let's wait and see if, what and when it happens. No level of hypothesis will will the name you use into usage, and it's just a way for sites like this to generate traffic and search hits.

Jobs said a small iPad would be a fail due to use issues but the iPod Touch already has a UI designed for a smaller screen and adapting it up to a 5-7 inch model still works great. And depending on the size that Apple goes for, the retina iPhone/touch apps wouldn't need much of an adjustment if any to stay within retina size.
Plus all the leaks show the bezel etc from the Touch rather than the iPad, furthering the suggestion that this is no 'iPad mini' but rather a new IPod Touch that is now more than just an iPhone that doesn't make calls or have cell data.
