What's Your Favorite New Feature Of iOS 6? [Let's Talk]

BusterBuster Posts: 315Member, Administrator, Moderator admin
Surely by now you've had enough time to download and install iOS 6 on your iPhone or iPad and play around a bit. It's crammed with a crazy amount of new features, like Passbook, Maps, Flyover, VIP inboxes, new App Store, iCloud tabs, Call reminders, Panorama, Facebook Integration, Shared Photo Streams and like 200 other features I can't even think of.

Of all the new goodies baked into iOS 6, what is your favorite? What's surprised you so far?

It's a really simple feature, but I'm loving the ability to reject calls and send a text message reply automatically. I get a lot of friends leaving butthurt voicemails because I didn't answer their call and now I can auto-respond with a "DUDE I'M FREAKING BUSY LIKE A MUTHER! i'll call back later" text

I love the ability to search for phone numbers and email addresses in spotlight. Now if someone asks, "Do you know someone with this phone number ......", you can type that number in spotlight and contacts get searched :D

I'm really liking the real world and very practical features like: Do Not Disturb, VIP in email, and the flag feature in email. I have high hopes for the Passbook app. I use the Starbucks app to buy my coffee and the American Airlines app for boarding passes frequently.

    My Experience so Far

    1. I feel the volume of Siri got low. Before the update it was fine. (Maybe its just me...)
    2. No Map Directions for Saudi Arabia and Pakistan...? Is that how they call it "New & Improved Maps"...?? I thought the only feature removed will be street view. We don't have street view so it does'nt matter. But the directions matters a lot.
    3. Facebook Contacts: Useless people with useless information in my contacts. Also wrong identification of people and assigned them FB names with any confirmation. Calendar is all messed up. I wish I never had those 2500 Facebook friends.
    4. Panorama is better than any other panorama App out there (Atleast what I think.) Better than Android I think.
    5. Settings look much organized. Good job done. Thank you for "Do Not Disturb Feature" (Without Jailbreak).
    6. I love the status bar changing colors. The Music App interface is really cook and I am impressed how the volume button changes. :-)
    7. As an International user I currently don't see ANY use of passbook in my country. I guess time will tell if international companies adopt this cool technology.

Overall I am enjoying iOS 6. Improvements needed for Facebook integration (Like HTC has integrated). Maps... Well, I'm really disappointed. (Google please help us) :(

Panorama doesn't seem to be available on iPad. I'm disapointed.

I really enjoy the ability to turn off notifications for a specific time. I also think that the 'reply with message' feature is long overdo! iOS 6 is by no means a huge leap forward, however; is it a welcomed update in my opinion.

  • My favorite feature is now when you download a app from the App Store you are not automatically sent to the home screen to watch it download, you can continue shopping. Simple yes...why didn't we have this before!!!

I have to go with the Vip email as well, I added a friend and all of the sudden emails from 2008 started showing up in the inbox. Not sure if that's because I use gmail or not. Photostream is interesting, but I think people are going to take it as these are now private between the recipients, not so they can be forwarded. Lets see how long it takes for someone to learn this the hard way. And I agree with ali_ I only have 300 some FB friends and my contact list looked like hell. I shall continue to use FB the old way on my iOS device, from an app. I don't need those contacts on my daily list.
Has anyone had battery issues? I was playing around with turn by turn and noticed the battery going quite quickly on a 4S.

I noticed while browsing that the status bar is still black for most iOS apps. Sad.

I like everything. It's a really solid OS. Kills battery though.

I LOVE the fact that Apple have partnered with Yelp for UK "local" business searches. Despite the fact there are around 25 pubs in my home town, Siri tells me the nearest pub is 13km away (whatever happened to miles?) in Exeter. Even on Yelp's main site the business information is wildly inaccurate and years out of date.

Siri is also mispronouncing words and denies the existence of Rugby and Cricket in its much vaunted sports update facility.

As at time of writing, there is one pass available (Lufthansa) in Passbook. What have Apple's B2B partnership teams been doing for the last 6 months?

I expected SO much better from a company whose reputation rests on user experience!

There are three things I really enjoy:
    1. The new settings app is in my opinion well organized.
    2. The way the calendar is displayed in the NotificationCenter: Date in the topic line and also the ending times of my events.
    3. Downloading und updating free apps without entering a password or leaving the Appstore

    That´s it!
I´m "just" using an iPhone 4 in Germany, so not all features are usable for me.

I love the new Do Not Disturb, VIP, dedicated signature (at last...), overall new user interfaces except for dial phone number which looks like Android phone instead of iOS.

I've using it for months since its first beta, and to be frankly, as an international user and heavy travel, Maps is a bummer. I decided to buy cheap Lumia only for travel because of no transit directions. And I checked yesterday, I was quite surprise with how well Apple POIs information in Indonesia. I can ask SIRI for a dentist now in my country! For those saying the maps has wrong coordinate or something, that just bullshit! But yes iOS 6 maps is sucks compared to previous Google Maps, but again, this is Apple first step in Maps business.

Well, with a map program without transit, and the disasters I"m reading about with facebook trashing your contact list - I think I'll stay with ios 5 for a while...

Do Not Disturb is huge for me, as I may have family 911 whilst my friends who don't wake @ 4am are still out carousing.

VIP Inbox is small but valuable. I've not tested out MAPS besides verifying my 3-year old subdivision streets are represented.

I like the small improvements to the Music player...anyone else have NO background color when looking at Playlists, Artists, etc. ?

By the way, I too had the issue w/ Passbook giving me an error "cannot connect to App Store" ... Do this to fix it:

Change the year on your phone to 2013. Next, go to the App Store and select the update tab at the bottom (you will receive an error). Then go back into your date & time settings and put it back on automatic. Open passbook and hit the App Store button at the bottom and it should be fixed.

Courtesy of another site that will remain nameless, I don't take credit. ;)

It's great that the Bluetooth access is now on the main page - would be even better if you. Could activate/deactivate with Siri
