Have You Actually Used Passbook Yet? [Let's Talk]

Passbook is supposed to be one of the big new features of iOS 6. Its magical card keeping system is supposed to help you ditch all your coupons, tickets, passes, rewards cards, and maybe even replace your wallet all together someday. The only problem is that there aren't a lot of places you can actually use Passbook yet.

It's not that Passbook isn't a great feature. It's awesome. People really want to use it. The MLB wants it to replace their ticketing system someday. But because it's only been out for a few weeks, there are a limited number of apps that take advantage of it, which makes it seem like a bit of a let down. On the CultCast last night we talked about how we haven't had the opportunity to use Passbook much, but we're wondering what your experience has been with it so far. Have you actually used it? If so, what do you think? If you haven't used it, what can be done to get more businesses and people on board?

I have used the Walgreens app many times...its actually pretty great. Rather than carrying my rewards card with me, it uses a geofence to pull it up on my lockscreen when I enter my "favorite" location. No unlocking the phone and searching etc, its just right there.

Like most people outside of the US, I'm just waiting for more apps to be available that work in the UK... still can't use Starbucks. It has great potential though.

No I have not yet, I want to try it out though. I downloaded the target app but it doesn't seem like the coupon updates when it expires though

I've used it through Fandango to see Frankenweenie. I was really disappointed. When I got to the theater there were long lines at the ticket kiosk, and I still had to wait in line to have the QR code in passbook scanned to get my tickets.

I thought passbook was supposed to speed up any ticketing process, instead this took the same amount of time as normal. Theaters need to make an express lane for Passbook to make this more useful. I love the potential of the app and want businesses to take advantage of it.

I've used passbook at Starbucks a few times now. At first I was unimpressed because it didn't pop up on my lock screen as I got to one of my favorite stores. A few days later, I went to another of my favorite stores - still nothing. When I purchased my coffee at both of these locations, I still used my passbook app. I don't know if it was a matter of using it once, before it took full effect, but now my pass pops up on my lock screen when I'm a couple blocks away from my favorite Starbucks locations. I really like how this works - no looking for an app, just swipe and the card's there!

I've only used Passbook once. I bought a movie ticket on Fandago which integrates with Passbook and the experience was awesome. Sadly, only like three movie theaters in the Phoenix area support Fandango ticket purchases or Passbook and they're crappy theaters. But it's awesome that A) you don't have to worry about getting there early to buy a ticket, and B) you don't have to worry about losing your ticket stub if you buy your ticket early and all that. I'm hoping Harkins Theater will jump on board soon so I can use it all the time.

I am in Halifax, Canada and unless I am booking a flight with American Airlines (LOL) or perhaps a concert there are no others apps available. Infact there are only 9 apps available in Canada and they are: Airbnb, Cineplex Mobile, Live Nation, Eventbrite, American Airlines, United Airlines, Lufthansa and Sephora to go.

I wish users could (on there own phone) create simple passbooks with reward card numbers or other. I don't think that it would be that complicated and I also don't think it is fair to have to wait for each company to come out with there own app. I just think for the most basic point of having my membership number in the app, users could type that in themselves.

I used it last week at a brand near theater near my house. Worked great, didn't have to fumble around with paper tickets, went straight to the ticket taker and he scanned my phone. Wish there were more places I could use it.

I have used it with the fandango app and the target app. I love that the target app has a single barcode for many coupons and the movie ticket was fantastic. I love passbook. I'd like to see it with more gift cards and movie theaters! I can't wait till I can use it with all of my gift cards, coupons, and more!

I have been very please with the Walgreens Passbook integration! The geofencing makes it very handy. I wish they had an option to allow you to enter your own, like for other store cards (CVS, Best Buy, etc.). I currently use CardStar for that; having it all combined would be great!

I have Starbucks integrated as well but to me, it's not any better because it doesn't geofence, so I might as well pull up the Starbucks app; then I can see my balance, etc.

In time, I think it will be great! Just needs wider adoption!

Use it all the time with Lufthansa and HRS here in Germany and it really makes it easy to check in etc. much better then looking for the email with the boarding pass
  • Passbook is awesome. Once there are more apps, it will be a killer feature for Apple devices!

I have the SB app and set it up to my favorite stores. All I worry about is tea/coffee and which pastries. It knows when I'm at SB or a movie theater and pops up automatically. I love passbook and can't wait for more companies to adopt them.

I've added my favorite Starbucks stores, but have not reloaded my card with money to test Passbook out. Two days ago it started working with the lock screen, so I'm looking forward to giving it a go! I'm hoping the member cards (ie: Best Buy, Kroger, Speedway) start getting on board.

I live in Colombia, and obviulsy I haven't use it because there is nothing to buy here whit passbook, what a shame. And I dont know anybody who has used it.
  • PassBook is great! I already have tickets for the RMS Titanic, Queen's 1986 tour and the 1966 World Cup. Other than that, it's useless in the UK.

If I went to the Walgreens that's less than 1/2 mile from my house I might actually have use for Passbook but...

I was tempted to use it at Starbucks but I don't go there often and with a minimum $25 purchase, it's not worth it just to show off.

With that said, I think Passbook has the potential to be bigger, more useful, and more conventional than Google Wallet or forcing businesses to invest in NFC readers.

The only app I've had occasion to use so far is Starbucks. I like how it pops up on my lock screen when I'm near a favorite store. Unfortunately, Passbook is extremely delayed in updating the balance, and doesn't even display the correct balance. For example, I currently have $0.05 remaining on my Starbucks card, but Passbook displays that I have $5.00. So I still have to open up the Starbucks app if I want to know how much money I actually have remaining.

I've used it multiple times so far in Canada for Cineplex Movies and my Scene Card (Points)

Nothing has popped up yet on my Lockscreen, but after reading a few other posts I'm hoping it will recognize the area after a couple visits...

    STILL waiting for Starbucks.......
