Final Cut Pro 7 and Mountain Lion Installation Problem

Hi all,
I know this question has been asked in forums on other sites before but I still can't find an answer.
I'm trying to install a copy disc of FCP 7 on my new macbook pro running mountain lion and it quits unexpectedly after I've entered the key and selected fcp installation (it quits while it says it's installing fcp). Would a clean install work in this case, even with a copy?
Is it possible to 'downgrade' to snow leopard even if my macbook is new and came with mountain lion?
